JOB SUMMARY

Duties to include, but not limited to, supervise manpower and material to support Job requirements. Review project timelines and control labor and materials. Ensure that production work is completed on schedule and within budget. Participate in the planning process. Direct personnel and assign work accordingly. Ensure skill level of personnel meets job requirements. Ship check and estimate work as required. Comply with all company policies and procedures. As a Supervisor of Shipfitter department, she/he is responsible for the direct supervision and oversight of the Shipfitter personnel. Lead the Shipfitter Department to successfully complete assigned work within budget and on time. Work to ensure that the overall project adheres to schedule by integrating work efforts with other craft supervision. The planning and scheduling of work, ordering materials. The management and development of staff which includes leading, motivating, training and disciplining and management of craft resources.

Essential Functions

  • Minimum of 15 years experience in the marine industry and previous ship repair experience is highly preferred. 5 years supervisory experience is also preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding, knowledge, technical skills, and concepts related to shipfitting, welding, and blue print reading.
  • Must have intimate knowledge of Mil-Std-248 Rev 1, Mil-std-22D and NAVSEA 7000 Standards for Brazing.
  • Must be capable of developing and administering Welding/Brazing Procedure Qualifications as well as Performance Qualifications for Plate and Pipe including HSLA, A36, 5086 Plate Butt Weld and Carbon Steel and 70/30 CUNI Butte Weld Pipe.
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting Drawings including SHIPALT drawings on Navy Combatant ships.
  • Must be capable of performing JHA’s for work in process.
  • Must be capable of managing a department of up to 20 shipfitters, welders and pipefitters.
  • Must be familiar with the tools and equipment required to perform shop and shipboard repair and replacement including standards contained in OSHA 1915.
  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to responds positively and decisively in normal and emergency situations.
  • Ensures compliance to all environmental, health and safety policies and quality standards.
  • Must be able to assist superintendent with workflow and strategy.
  • Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and training craft employees to meet requirements of job.
  • Responsible for supervising activities and managing costs to ensure production and quality of work performed meets specifications, costs, and schedules.
  • Responsible for maintaining all machinery and equipment for specific operational performance and optimum utilization as well as ensuring inspections remain current.
  • Responsible for enforcing worker compliance with following appropriate procedures in the areas of production, accuracy control, safety, cost, and quality assurance.

  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Works with minimal direction, independently determines methods and procedures on new assignments and provides supervision and expertise to the department.
  • Determines appropriate actions, methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for expediting results by exercising independent judgment within company policy.
  • Follows and organized method in approach to work but is cognizant of the time needed to provide a service or product.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience

  • Ten or more years related marine, shipyard or industrial experience.
  • Prefer at least five (5) years supervisory experience.

  • 8 hour shift

Pay: $30-$35 per hr.
